Beastro Manchester - where great steaks go to get cooked with love!
Last night we were invited by The Gourmet Gays to attend the soft launch of an exciting new restaurant called BEASTro, in the Left Bank, Spinningfields, Manchester.
Now, anywhere the fabulous GG boys recommend to eat is somewhere to be noted - those boys know their tastebuds and, as you may remember, host their own supper clubs which are seriously hot tickets to get hold of. And they've been following the BEASTro food journey for a long while...we were happy to go along, see for ourselves and taste what all the fuss is about.
The BEASTro team is headed by founders Richard, James and Heather and all have a massive range of experience from the famous Swinton butchers Royal Meats, the Food Truck "Shake, Morocco, Roll", Bobby's Bangers and Bangers & Mash. With a wealth of history like this we were excited to see their latest venture and sample the menu for ourselves.
The BEASTro guys are very passionate about their food, about local sourcing and about quality:
"They say you’re a product of your environment. That makes us pretty unique. Farmers markets. Street trading. Spinningfields.
We’ve covered all bases. That means we’ve got to know local suppliers who deliver local produce. Our partnership with Noones and the Manchester Veg People means your food doesn’t travel far from field to fork.
We’re proud of what we do and we’re even prouder of what we use to do it. We want our guest to know how their food ended up in-front of them. What was involved in the journey from field to fork.
We’re excited by food. Our Chefs table allows you to sit in the belly of the beast and watch your meal be prepared in front of your eyes, allowing the process and the product to become one."
The atmosphere is very welcoming with attentive staff and great music choices - this definitely feels like a place you could pop into for an intimate dinner for two or have a riotous meal for a celebration. It's a modern design with a rustic feel. Nothing in the restaurant feels overly formal or stuffy. I definitely felt that I was watching a restaurant making it all about the food and not pretending to be otherwise.
So lets get down to it.
A little amuse bouche arrived courtesy of the kitchen with a delightfully nutty butternut squash soup topped with toasted pumpkin seeds and cream. It amused my bouche and made me think "damn I should have ordered that to start!"
However when my Curried Cod with pan fried Scallops, shallot puree and crispy shallots tipped up I was really happy. Beautifully presented with lovely textures, sweetness from the scallop and the shallot puree, expertly cooked cod flaking perfectly and a lovely curry sauce with a great spicy kick on the end. It did not last very long and was a pleasure to eat.
But lets get to the star of the show shall we?
When ordering from the menu I happened to glance across at another diners table and thought that the steaks looked really good but huge. I had to order one thinking "if I can't finish it all I'll get myself a little doggie bag to take home"
No chance....none whatsoever!
This was the best steak I've ever eaten out in a restaurant. It was absolutely delicious and i demolished every little piece of it, practically licking my plate clean in the process. As I exclaimed to the table: "Wow that's the tastiest damn cow I've ever eaten!" Seriously folks - you have to get down to BEASTro and try these bad boy Sirloins for yourself - do it now before they run out. Honestly - get off the internet now and get in your car....
So there you have this humble glutton's opinion and I hope you go and try it for yourselves - I don't think you'll be disappointed and I can't wait to go back and see what happens next. BEASTro is fully open from Saturday - book now to get a table.
To the wonderful BEASTro team - we wish you every success for the future and you never know we might end up doing a Bongo's night...a Bongo's BEASTro?? You bring the delicious dishes - we'll bring the heat!
